Women in the Cardano ecosystem
Given that the author knows the Cardano ecosystem the most extensively this blog entry will cover some of the women in the Cardano ecosytem. More broadly NBX wants to highlight that just as in traditional finance there is a male skew such as around 80% of stockholders on the Oslo exchange being men according to the q4 2023 report of aksjenorge. In crypto, a report from Gemini in 2022 suggested one-third of crypto owners are women in developed nations and Latin America leading with 43% of crypto owners in the region identifying as women. For mainstream adoption and to acquire the widest talent pool it is important that crypto reaches out to this demographic as well.
One way of increasing adoption is through awareness of what other women are doing in the space. In the Cardano ecosystem, there is an organization simply called Cardano Women with a mission of empowering women and girls in Web3 and initiatives such as “Amplify Her” to elevate women and female voices. Konsensis is a Non-profit organization focused on onboarding refugee women to Cardano with partners such as Olympus Insight. The X post we’re cardano girls also became a viral phenomen as seen in article such as this one and discussed in depth in Dapp Central in this video. In terms of research Polina Vinogradova is an example of a Cardano researcher for future roadmap items such as Babel fees. Mercy Fordwoo is from the organisation WADA an international organisation to unleash the potential resource network of Africa with Distributed Ledger Technology and has been an important female voice that recently stepped up to a non-executive director position in Intersect the Cardano membership based organisation. To be clear there are many more female voices on the Cardano blockchain and hopefully, this blog entry inspires more women or girls out there and we increase the adoption rate for women in Crypto and for people to raise awarness of what women in both the Cardano ecosystem but also wider across all blockchains are doing in the space.
